Every Saturday this summer there has been a Saturday Market at the corner where one of our mainstreets joins another. A group of people who make things to sell or have produce or other stuff to sell gather at the corner on a large empty lot. We set up shelters for shade and tables where our handicrafts are displayed. Every saturday I sit in a booth under a big umbrella and offer breads that my mother and I have made. Our friend, Paula also works the booth. It is usually a pleasent time of visiting with customers and people who just stop to say "Hi". There are usually four to six of us vendors working the market, and the offerings enclude quilts, fresh produce, jewelry, hand sewn items, and baked goods. Sometimes there are different vendors, and sometime there are a few more or a few less.
When the Saturday Market first started I was sceptical about spending my Saturday mornings sitting down on the corner, dealing with people and having to seem like everything is wonderful and like I know what I'm doing. I like the Market now--the people, the atmosphere--it's a fine way to spend Saturdays, and I really look forward to it.
